Knitting & Crochet Gauge Converter
Swatch gauge is the whole game in knitting and crochet: if your tension does not match the pattern, the finished piece comes out the wrong size. Enter your swatch gauge and the pattern gauge (stitches and rows over 10 cm or 4 inches), then either convert the pattern's stitch and row counts to the counts you should work at your gauge, or type a target width and length and get the cast-on stitches and rows to knit. Everything is simple ratio math — your count equals the pattern count times your gauge over the pattern gauge — so the finished size stays true even when your tension differs. The tool also suggests a needle-size change (a rough half-millimetre per stitch-per-10 cm of difference, as a starting point before you re-swatch) and shows a quick conversion table of common widths and lengths at your gauge. Notes
- Always knit and measure a gauge swatch in the actual stitch pattern and wash/block it first — gauge can shift noticeably after blocking.
- Counts are converted by the ratio of gauges, so the finished dimensions match the pattern; row gauge matters most for top-down and length-critical pieces.
- The needle suggestion (about 0.5 mm per stitch-per-10 cm of difference) is only a starting point — change the needle, swatch again, and measure; yarn and stitch pattern change how much a size shifts gauge.
