Fabricated Number Detector

Runs the digit-level tests auditors use to catch made-up numbers. Humans are terrible random number generators: they overuse "random-looking" digits like 7, avoid doubles like 44, land on round endings too often and repeat favourite patterns. Paste a column of expense amounts, lab measurements or survey responses and get a χ² test of last-digit uniformity, a second-digit Benford check, a repeated-digit test, a round-number test and a duplicate scan — with a plain-language verdict for each.

Notes

  • Last-digit uniformity is the workhorse: in genuinely measured data with enough precision, final digits are nearly uniform, while invented numbers rarely are.
  • Tests need material: below ~50 numbers only gross fabrication shows up. The verdicts state how much power you have.
  • A failed test is a lead, not a conviction — rounded prices, quantized instruments and psychological pricing (9.99) all break digit uniformity for honest reasons. For first-digit analysis, see the Benford's Law Checker.
