Git Branching Sandbox illustration

Git Branching Sandbox

A safe visual playground for git's object model: type real commands — commit, branch, checkout, merge, rebase, push, fetch, clone, reset, tag, log — and watch the commit graph animate. Guided levels cover merge, rebase, detached HEAD, and remotes; undo rewinds mistakes without abandoning the lesson; a second graph simulates origin; a side-by-side view contrasts merge vs rebase on the same divergent history. Cheatsheet and permalink replay included.

Runs 100% in your browser — nothing you paste leaves your device.

Notes

  • Rebase creates brand-new commits with new hashes — originals fade but still exist, which is why rebasing published history upsets collaborators.
  • Undo rewinds the sandbox state; Reset level restarts the current challenge without changing levels.
  • Remote push/fetch copies commits between the local and origin graphs — a teaching model, not a full network simulation.
