3D Print Cost & Time Calculator

Estimates what a 3D print really costs: filament (from weight, or from model volume with an infill heuristic), print time from a throughput per material and speed class, electricity, a failure- rate surcharge, and a suggested selling price with markup. Currency-agnostic — costs are in whatever currency you price the filament in.

Solid model volume as CAD reports it; infill scaling is applied below.
If the slicer already gives grams, use them directly — that is the accurate route.
Rough heuristic: material ≈ volume × (25% shell + 75% × infill). A slicer weight is always more accurate.
Purge, brims, supports, failed first layers.
Standard PLA ≈ 15 g/h on a typical bedslinger; draft is ~1.6×, quality ~0.6× of that.
Average, not peak — bed heating dominates; 100–150 W is typical for PLA.
Long-run share of failed prints; spreads their cost over the successful ones.
0 = just the cost; 100 doubles it.

Notes

  • Densities are manufacturer-datasheet values (PLA 1.24, PETG 1.27, ABS 1.04, TPU 1.21, ASA 1.07, nylon 1.14 g/cm³); throughputs are typical bedslinger rates per material and speed class — calibrate with one timed print of your own.
  • If you enter a weight, it is used as-is. The volume route applies a shell + infill heuristic (25% + 75% × infill) and is only a first estimate — real slicers know your wall count and top/bottom layers.
  • The failure surcharge divides the base cost by (1 − failure rate): at 5%, every 20th print is lost, so each good one carries 1/19 extra.
